Which diffuser do you use?

Hi, I just got a Canon 580ex and have started shopping around for a diffuser. Gary Fong's new diffuser (LS2PJ) looks pretty good, but is it worth $48 when a Sto-fen Omni-bounce is $17 and a Lumiquest Promax is going for $27? I don't mind paying more if it's worth more... any experience with these system you'd care to share?

Thanks!
Jack

    I would say it is.

You could technically make your own stofen omnibounce with the bottom of a rubbing alcohol bottle. just cut the top off.

I use the stofen omnibounce on my 340ex with my 20d and previously with an Elan IIE. It has worked well for me in different situations. I have used it to shoot pictures of my son's high school plays during dress reheasal and have gotten good results. In those cases I used it pointed straight ahead, not angled toward the ceiling as the ceiling was black and full of stage lights, etc.

When used indoors and angled up, it gives a nice shadow free lighting. I always shoot flash on automatic, as I never took the time to try and figure out how to do it manually. The camera does a good job with the omnibounce.

I don't have any experience with the other types.

    I prefer the LSIIPJ.

I have used the Stofen as well as the original LS, but find the LSIIPJ is worth putting up with for on-camera flash. I prefer getting the flash off the camera if at all possible, but for on-camera, the LSIIPJ does work nicely.

My LSIIPJ is kind of hard to fit on the 580 EX, but once its on its fine. The ability to fold the LSIIPJ is better than the original LSII.

    YMMV!
