Close Encounter with Polish Spirit

I was photographing various insects in my garden when I saw this Clematis flower. It was one of many on the same plant but the stage of opening of the petals seemed particularly attractive to me. The variety is Clematis viticella cultivar Polish Spirit
I had a single flash on the L-bracket and this copy of the lens had no adapter to hold a fill flash.
I took some shots. Then, seeing shadows in the images, I grabbed a fill flash and held it in my lens-supporting hand, first level with the lens, then just below it. The following images are in reverse order, showing the single-flash ones last. I also tried a couple of viewing angles, attempting to minimise the amount of the background wall in the frame.
The fine speckles on the backs of the petals are not pollen but are structural.
