Enhancements to Carousel Content Block

I tried the Carousel content block on my site but I was disappointed in the results. I would like to recommend two enhancements:
1. It definitely needs to be smoother in its motion, more like the new background slide show. Currently each photo kinda jerks into position.
2. I would like a "full screen" option where each landscape oriented photo would be displayed full screen, again similar to the background slide show. Portrait images would display full height with a portion of the adjacent photos on each side.
Here is a (presumably non-SM) website that has what I consider to be a nicer looking carousel effect.
It occurs to me that perhaps this could be better implemented as just another motion option on the background slide show.
