How? Sync Lightroom to SM cat after an upload

Hello,

I used a third-party uploader (picbackman) to upload a folder of images. Viewing that same directory via the the SM Lightroom publish window, it indicates that all the photos still need to be uploaded.

Is it possible to use a third-party uploader to upload photos and then use the LR/SM Publish to maintain changes afterwards? Or is uploading via the LR/SM Publish module the only way to manage the link between LR and SM?

Thank you.
Well every person you can know,
And every place that you can go,
And any thing that you can show,
You know they're nouns.

    G'day uncool,

It depends on a number of factors....

    - Do the uploaded images exist in your LR catalog ? This is a requirement
    - Do the uploaded images have metadata on SmugMug ?
    - Is the filename on SmugMug different to the filename of the original image ?

All of these factors currently effect how well image syncing works....but this may change in the future.

If you can post some more additional info, I can potentially look into it further.

    Cheers,

    Desktop Folder Name: 01-2015
    Lightroom path to folder: HardDrive > Years > 2015 > 01-2015
    SmugMug location: Years > 2015 > 01-2015

    I uploaded the 01-2015 folder using a third-party uploader.
When I view the 01-2015 folder using the LR/SM Publish module it still lists "New photos to publish"

If I can stay on top of my uploads I don't mind using the Publish module but I was trying to get caught up by using the other uploader because it is quicker.

So is there a way to get LR's SM Publish module to recognize that the photos already exist on the site?

Is it possible to send a zipped copy of your .lrcat file to take a closer look at ?

    You can upload it here...

Just so there's no confusion, have you found and exercised the sync photos button in the Lightroom plugin? The plugin doesn't sync automatically.

If you have, my apologies for asking a dumb question. It's just that some folks starting out don't find all the bells and whistles right away.

If you haven't, right click the gallery name in Lightroom and select Edit Gallery. In the middle of the box that opens up, you'll see check box labeled Sync Photos. Check it and click Edit down below. Alternatively, you can right-click a folder containing a bunch of galleries and select Edit Folder. There you'll find both sync hierarchy and sync photos buttons where you can sync all galleries in that folder.

I think this is working. As a matter of fact I am currently going through the sync process on all my folders now. Basically cleaning house. As it turns out nearly all my folders so far have images that needed to be removed or added.

Once all the updating is complete I'll need to back up that drive to a couple locations for safe keeping.

Thanks for the nudge in the right direction.
