I tried this b&w but like the touch of color better.

Taken under one of my favorite trees, a large copper beech.

    Square crop feels too tight for me, too much of the tree is lost.

    OK. I like it, now you have two triangles balancing each other on the lower left and upper right corners...

    Really nice composition. I agree with Carter, I could go either way on the crops. Nicely done!

    Pleasing use of silhouette... nice!
    I see Cristóbal's point... but I think I agree with you, and prefer the original - both work though.
