Selling a Camera with a High Shutter Count

I'll probably be upgrading sometime in the not too distant future but one thing I'm kinda clueless about is how to price my old D700. Externally it's fine without much in the way of wear since I've been pretty careful with it over the years but it's going to have a shutter count up around 140-150k by the time I sell it (the shutter is rated for 150k). So has anyone bought or sold bodies like that before? How did you come up with a fair price?

I suggest researching cost-of-replacement and try to determine if you are better off having those repairs done professionally yourself, and adding a portion of the repair cost to the sale price, or simply discount the body by some of those costs, since this body has high usage, and add a "sold as is" disclaimer. The exact dollar amounts will vary so use your best judgement.
As for determining average fair market value for a direct sale of a used photographic item, I look at KEH, Adorama and B&H used sections for similar equipment costs. Once you find the average costs at those sites, knock off 40 percent to arrive at fair price for a private sale. What you should ask is between those two values. In other words, the difference between the KEH/Adorama/B&H average used price and 40 percent less than that is your "Wiggle Room" for price negotiation. You can also search the Digital Grin past sales prices in our "Flea Market" and use those prices for more direct valuations (since we don't charge anything for listing cameras) and also Fred Miranda Buy & Sell Photo-Gear prices.

Everything was OK.
Year later I sold it with 145k on counter.
Buyer was happy, price was right, camera working as should.
At the time I talked with Nikon Service Center head mechanic about what should I do.
Answer was simple - if not broken, we don't fix it !
Unless you push us very, very hard.
So set your price right and wait for buyers :^)

I'm not sure of the 6D's shutter rating but getting 180,000 clicks sounds good
The Canon EOS 6D is rated at 100,000 shutter actuations. Presumably that also applies to the mirror box assembly (which is the other major moving and mechanical section of a dSLR design).

My D7100 is getting to that point, it's up near 170k but with D7200 prices dropping I'm going to just replace it for a few hundred bucks more.
