    I like the idea here and will provide some feedback for you. The first major issue is the time of day. There is no details or character in the sky and the mountains in the distance are washed out. Sticking to the hours around sunrise and sunset provide the best opportunity for great light. Overcast days also work. Some small changes to your composition would also help. The tree on the left and the rock wall on the bottom are detractors, they take your attention away from the scene and serve no purpose.

    The location warrants a revisit though- looks like there is some good opportunities there.

    Or maybe by shifting his location he could have featured these as foreground elements. I agree with your other points a well.
