There are few bugs in the winter in England - tonight I spotted a hoverfly larva on the stem of an alstroemera stalk, and the autumn/winter faves, a globular springtail trotting across a fallen weather-beaten leaf...

It looks like a Cheilosia species, some of which burrow in stems.
