How large a file to upload

I'm undecided on how large a file to upload to Smugmug. My feeling is that I'd like to upload a full sized file but with my internet connection it just takes too long. I moved +5,000 files from pbase and their actually smaller than I would like. At the present I'm downsizing (and redoing old pic's) to a vertical height of 1,000 pix. That enables me to get a full screen photo but not take forever to upload.

Any thoughts or links would be appreciated

There are resolution requirements for different sized prints, and for our different display sizes. Here are a couple of links for you to go over to help decide what will work best for you.
