Search box and asterisk

Hello,

Typing asterisk as your search text in the Search widget will bring back the entire collection of photographs. Can this bug be fixed, please?

Hi Michael,

Yes, the * symbol is SmugMug's way to say "ALL", "Everything", "give me the whole list". It will still not bring up any private or passworded photos for guests searching your site, so your content is still secure.

Thanks. Yes, asterisk usually means "everything" in many programming algorithms. Exactly two years ago I brought up the same issue here: http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=243381. Back than it was not just one character - SM returned all images if user typed any non-alphabet character. It is nice to see that Smugmug agreed it was a bug and today this bug does not exists anymore. I truly appreciate you addressing this issue. However, I respectfully would like to ask Smugmug to leave the decision whether or not to to allow the retrieval of all the images with the wildcard to me, please.

Hi Michael,

I do not thing that our engineers would consider this a bug since it is a designed feature. If you want it changed, I would suggest submitting a feature request in our feedback forum here:

Our engineers keep a sharp eye on the suggestions there.

There us always hope. After all, your engineers did agree that returning all images for any non-alphabet character is indeed a bug. I have a specific use case that I will be happy to discuss. I am just searching for someone who is willing to listen. May I pm you or anyone with the explanation?
