At this time of year in Germany it's Christmas Market season and Munich is loaded with them. A couple of weekends ago my gentleman friend and I got on the bikes and did a progressive Christmas Market visit, stopping at three distinctly different markets.

The first stop was at the artsy-craftsy market at Münchner Freiheit.

So glad you enjoyed them! I was just trying to capture a bit of the season, which this year is pretty challenging because of the rather warm temperatures. Hardly any frost, absolutely no snow.

Real nice set, Sara. As Taz said, very Christmasy! I love the steam off the bread (?) coming from the oven in #4, the clarity of #10 and the whole Christmas theme and reflection in #16.

Thanks, Jo - the "bread" were tasty little pizzas with sour cream, onions and bacon - yum, I had one for lunch!

For the pictures up through number 14 I used my 20mm (40mm equiv.) 1.7 pancake which is very sharp although sometimes the auto-focus is somewhat fussy.

    Cheers, Sara

Very nice collection. It looks like the fairs there are a lot more tasteful than the ones here in Madrid, which are mostly pretty tacky. Oh, and that pig wouldn't last long here...lol3.gif.

Believe me, there's enough tacky stuff, too - but we stayed away from the huge main Christmas market in the middle of town where the tacky quotient is higher. ...and I'm sure the pig didn't last long here either (one of my private names for Bavaria is "land o' pork") :eat

    Glad you liked the pics!

16,17&18 really caught my eye. I think I'd like to see a wider shot of the swords with shallow DOF. Nice set.

Nice set. We've only been to our local Weihnachtsmarkt which only has about 10 booths, three of which are for the Glühwein. I wanted to go to Stuttgart's, but that didn't happen this year. And the weather, we ate breakfast on the patio this morning, and apparently the storks are still here, I might try to find them if I can get my man to find the report about them again.

    Thanks for the feedback, Bryan.

At those first two markets I was playing with my Lumix 20mm pancake lens and was using my feet as the zoom like in the old days - and I was also doing a bit of pretending "what if this was film" and not always taking 10 shots of things. Then there were the crowds of people walking between me and the subject. So indeed, there is only that one picture of the knives at that one crop (or rather, not at all cropped). Hmmm... But I like your idea and wish I'd though of it at the time!

    Cheers,

    Sara

Thanks JC, glad you liked them. And yes, we ARE having unusual weather, aren't we? I don't want to complain - it makes bike riding very nice!

...and don't forget... the Glühwein booths are the raison d'etre for the Weihnachtsmärkte, aren't they??? :D

    schöne Grüße aus Augsburg,

    Sara

Alas, the bolt for the stem of my 20 year old bike got mysteriously lost in the move (the only lost item I've ID'd so far), so bike trips haven't happened yet.

Oh, that's really a shame. I hope you can get it fixed before spring arrives.
