Oh my oh my. Days and days of work. Gone. I hope there a frequent backup and it can be recovered.

    Allen,
I sent an email and was told "It’s a winter holiday across the globe, and our Support Heroes are taking a quick break to enjoy some family time. It may take us a little longer than usual to reply."

Do you know how often they do backups?

I am feeling pretty sick about this right now. I thought I was deleting just an image but it deleted the entire gallery. I have copies of the images of course, but it was all the notes and information I had put into it which is gone now.

I was able to get the source code from a Google cache, so at least all the copy text can be recovered. I think in any case, I will put the text into the photos themselves instead of entering it into the website. At least then I will be able to restore it easily if this ever happens again.

    Hi Charles,

I just checked the inbox and it looks like a hero has already handled your ticket. If I'm mistaken please let me know, I'm standing by. :) Merry Christmas!

Glad to hear that SM was able to solve the problem.

You might want to check out Nick Sherlock's SmugMug backup utility for Chrome. It will let you save all your customizations whenever you want. Note: unfortunately, though saving is easy there is no automatic way to restore from a backup, so you still want to be very careful about deleting stuff. Still, in a pinch copying and pasting is a whole lot better than starting from scratch. deal.gif

Even though the photos don't appear in your account, we don't actually delete them right away. Typically we hang onto the photos for a bit of time, in case things like this happen. This lets the heroes recover the photos in cases like this! Glad we could help.

I am thankful for everyone's help. The heroes are indeed what make SmugMug special!

What I have done to protect my descriptive text is to use Adobe Bridge to put in all the text and titles and other stuff right into the photo - used the IPTC core panel which allows for all that info to be added. This way, when I upload the photo, all the information comes with it and I don't need to edit anything in SmugMug for each photo.
