new Year, new ice spike

Got home from New Year's celebration and found a lone ice spike. Armed with an iphone and a flashlight, I struggled with freezing fingers for focus and exposure.

There is no liquid water, this is all ice, even the frozen ripples. Given the right situation, freezing water sometimes makes these lovely vertical spikes (and other shapes) rising up out of the water. This is a crop that has been compressed and down sized to meet the forum rules. The spike is about an inch in length.

Nothing says New Years like a good 'ol photogenic ice spike! :D

Great idea. Just get out there, light it up and make it happen. And if you're doing one of those 365 days of photography series, there's day one, in the bag.
