Why is it such a slog to move one photo from one place to another?!?

I've been trying to move some photos from an existing gallery to another gallery within a folder, but all I'm seeing is an interminable "Moving 1 photo" dialog. Why on earth is it such an inexorable task to move one single photo from one location to another?!? I've tried moving a stack of photos, I've tried moving just one, but regardless of which method, I get this ridiculous, eternal, "moving "X" photos" progress bar.
