IIRC, there should be some tutorials either here or at DPReview on IR processing. Personally, I think your shots are pretty good, but could use just a bit more contrast.
Oh what fun. I can't wait till I get my Hoya R72 either.
I agree about upping the contrast a tad. I don't have any experience with PP since I don't have my filter yet, but there aren't many leaves around here at the moment either
The 2nd shot just keeps me captivated, though. It's quite lovely.
Andy, I still haven't gotten around to sending in my D100 to maxmax to get modified. My question is do pics using a red ir filter look the same as they do using a modified ir cam? Or is there a big difference? If they are the same I imagine the post processing is the same?
Most fun I've had for $50!! This new filter was interesting to use (Hoya R72). Any comments on the PP? I'd love a tutorial on IR processing.
Hi Mitchell.......yup that was $50 well spent for sure.
Beautiful series...... I love the trees and the first shot, excellent choices very very nice work indeed....... Skippy (Australia)
You couldn't find it becuase I just made it today, for you
Andy,
Thank you for your efforts with this tutorial. I now have a confession to make. I didn't shoot these pics in raw.:hide I know I should be flogged, but I was just fooling around on a nature walk with my son when I took these not expecting anything worth working with.
My problem now is that I can't follow your tutorial which relies on the raw controls of CS2. Any advise on how to achieve your effects from a JPG using CS2?
Crispin,
I'm no expert, but from what I've read (and done), you need to desaturate your IR images in photoshop to remove the pink and purple colors. Give this a try and let us know.
Many talk about using a custom white balance using green grass as the selection. I shot these with auto white balance.

I have a sony camera I use just for IR, and then use PSP which is similar pp.
What settings you use? WB?
Mine come out a odd pink or strange purply colour. Not the cool BW you have.
I also use a R72.
