Homepage customisation

Hi to all!
I am trying to further customise the homepage of my site (www.naturallightphoto.gr), but I have hit a wall since my knowledge on CSS and HTML is close to none.
What I would like to do is make my left side main menu bar delay to appear (5 secs), while the splash page of the background slideshow is playing. How can I do that?
