some recent bees
Unfortunately as part of the recent bastardry the local council decided to mow all the tall grass in the abandoned lot I got about 80% of these in, which means just about all of these colonies are wiped out. The native bees tend to build nests in a hole in the ground or packed clay and guard it from the tall grass above, now the grass is gone and the holes are all collapsed from machinery . I've been photographing the dwindling remainder of all the bugs from it (like a 2 acre lot) over the last week or so - basically the entire population of wasps, robber flies, 4 different kinds of bees, dragonflies, etc, all crowded into a 20cm wide strip of grass along a fence rather than the whole block.
