Stats include views by owner

Morning,

Message from Leftquark last year was as follows
"For the time being, we've stopped counting all views from the mobile apps in stats: both owners and visitors"
However, when I today use the Smugmug app on my Android mobile it generates hits shown in the stats all the time. This is a bug which ruins the value of Smugmug Statistics for me.

Also it contradicts the statement you see when looking at stats, where it says
"We track only your visitors' views."

    Do you have the images marked as offline? At least in theory it should not be hitting them at all then. Right?

    (that of course does not answer the question about what happens if you have them not marked offline).

    Hello Ferguson,

    Correct, those that I checked were marked for Offline. And it seems as if the whole download was then counted as hits. And this then makes the stats unusable for me. I will do a check on a gallery which is not marked as Offline.

    Regardless, this behaviour contradicts the saying that "owners view should not count".

    And a small questions from me ... you ask if I have "the images marked as offline?". I am not sure I can mark images, my belief is that I can only mark galleries. Could you please confirm, thanks

    I checked with the mobile team and confirmed that neither owner views nor owner downloads (mark for offline) should be counted towards stats. Can you please send me some examples (feel free to PM me links), so I can look into this further?

    Fergusson: I looked at a few galleries on my mobile which are almost never looked at. They have now all been listed in SmugMug stats

    Leftquark: As far as I can see, every time I touch a gallery on my mobile it shows up in the stats. I will PM you some details.

    Yep -- looks like mobile views are being counted in stats. We're currently looking into this, as they're not supposed to be. In the future we'd like to only count visitor views on the mobile apps but for now, since the fix is a bit more complex, the intent is to disable all views from mobile apps.
