Morning,

Inside Account Settings I can see the permission added when I started using the Android App. There are two parameters in there, called ACCESS and PERMISSION. These I can CHANGE or REVOKE.

In order to CHANGE these two parameters I need to understand them.

Where are they documented?
Could someone share any experiencies on how to use them?
Can they be used to make sure noone but me can see my photos on a mobile phone?

Regards, Harald

Change lets you switch an authorized service between: "Read", "Add", or "Modify" accesses.
"Read" lets the service see your your photos and videos, but cannot do add or modify photos.
"Add" lets the service add photos to your account.
"Modify" lets the service read (see what's there) or write (add to) to your account.

Anyone can add you as a visitor, by either following you in the mobile app or by visiting your site URL. The only way to prevent this would be to enable a sitewide password or make all your galleries private.

    Thanks Leftquark,

That is a good explanation of the three values for parameter PERMISSONS.

Could you now also explain the two values for ACCESS (they are FULL and PUBLIC).

What I also need to know is how PERMISSIONS and ACCESS are related.

Also, what values should I use when all I want is for me (the owner) to be able to view my own galleries? I do not want to upload anything, only download. I don't want anyone else to view my galleries on a mobile

    Best regards, Harald

I think you're confusing how these work. These don't control whether or not people can view your photos. These settings control which 3rd party external services (like Lightroom, Blurb, or anyone else who builds a product and wants to use your SmugMug photos for their own service).

If you want to control who views your photos, those are controlled in Gallery Settings under "Security and Sharing", the "Visibility" and "Access" options. You cannot allow viewing on the web but restrict it on mobile.

    Thanks Leftquark,

A bit of the fog has left the stage. Maybe a reason for this fog was the simple fact that these two parameters are there in my account setting at all. This is not a complaint and no suggestion they should be removed. But since they are available for me as the owner I must assume their purpose is for me.

I still don't see why I have the possibility to change the values if they are not for me but for some tool that seeks access to my whole SmugMug site?

It's for you to control. You can control how much access these apps have. Your access controls for how your photos are viewed are in your Gallery Settings, not hidden in an Account Setting.
