Canon rebate question

Has anyone bought an item (body or lens) from Newegg and gotten their single/double/triple rebates approved by Canon? Newegg is on the approved Canon authorized online resellers list (as quoted to me by Canon support via email), and it's NOT a gray market camera, but their live chat person just told me:

"In order to use a rebate that the manufacture offers you would have to purchase it through the manufacturer. You can try contacting Canon to see if they will accept the rebate if purchased from a different vendor."

I would assume the rebate will still work ok, right?

Good to know - their 20D body is $50 less than B&H has it for. Thanks Andy.

Well, I don't work for Canon - so don't only go on my word - I would beat on them some more!

Actually, it was Newegg's live chat person that told me to contact Canon - I didn't make that clear. I'm assuming the Newegg person is just out of the loop as far as rebates go.
