Luminosity Masking

I just started learning luminosity masking using TKA for Photoshop. This is my first attempt.

I just got some coaching from a highly respected photographer and this is my second attempt:

Hmmmm interesting. I can't put my finger on it but maybe it is the comp. The cholla is chopped off on the right side. Maybe the barrel is too close in the forefront? It sure has lots of elements though so maybe those are not a big deal. The sky is beautiful. I do think you have the correct color in the foreground - looks realistic to me. Anxious to see what the experts say.

I've been using Tony's Luminosity Masks for several years now. Looks great to me. Do wish the cactus wasn't cropped though.

The dynamic range is superb, Dan. I'd have to say that for your first attempt, this is a smashing success.

You're off to a fine start. I use luminosity masks a lot, for combining exposures and tonal adjustments.
