These are two photos shot from atop Haleakala, a ten thousand foot volcano on Maui, behind our house. From here, I'm looking across the crater toward the east. Both shots were taken on two separate mornings, from two differing vantage points.

7D + Tokina 11-66 2.8 ATX Pro + tripod

All images are single exposure, worked in Lightroom. Thanks for viewing!

***PRO TIP*** Bring winter clothes. It was about 40* with steady 30mph wind up there at 6am!

Great pics. i'm going back to Maui again next week. I've seen the sunrise before and was just wondering where you set up to get the sunrise. It doesn't look like you took them from the usual spot near the parking lot.

Hooray for a return to Maui!

For these, I stopped at the lower parking area, just down the hill from the summit (at the visitor center up top). From that parking lot, take the trail around and up to the top of the small hill across from the visitor center. There are several spots up there from which to capture a fabulous sunrise.

    Warmest Aloha!

I don't know where I'm going, but I'm going anyway.
