A Few Bucks from Bosque, and More

Kathy and I returned to Bosque in early January on our own drive through. Most of the birds - snow geese and sandhill cranes - were not to be seen, flown off somewhere else apparently. But the deer were still there, as were the bobcats, foxes, and raptors. The foxes and the single bobcat were too fast for us, but the deer did cooperate, as did the javelina.

Birds or no birds, I really like what you've captured here, Jim. The first buck shot is really nice, as is the "jumping javelina" with the smile on his face. When I was in the Chobe last summer, one of our guides was remarking how warthogs (cousins of the javelina) always seem to be in a hurry, as if they're "late for a meeting". lol3.gif

It's funny you say that, Joe, that's exactly how the javelina were; they just walked through the field in quick step, like they were in a hurry, but not quite needing to run.

But in a hurry, like late for a meeting, that's a very apt description.

    Thanks Paul, my favorite too.

Although, the portrait format of the first image makes a nice desktop view for my iPad currently.

All you ever hear about is the birds, but it looks like there are some other worthy subjects to capture. Very cool, thanks for posting!

    Happy to oblige!

There are mountain lions reported there occasionally, but I have not seen one.

I have seen foxes, coyotes, bob cats, javelina, and deer at Bosque, so I know there are more than just birds. Having a little time and patience seems to help, but some of it is just luck, too. I suspect there is the occasional bear, and maybe some elk from time to time as well.

There are lots of different raptors, and I have seen more kestrels at Bosque than I ever see at home.
