Show Recent Galleries on Homepage

Can the number of galleries shown be limited? I want to show the 5 most recent galleries.
Also, I'd like a way to exclude galleries from the recent list.

I don't see any way to limit the number of galleries.

In addition, when I tested the use of recent galleries on my site the returned set of galleries included some that haven't been touched in years (interspersed with new galleries), very odd.

I have a page on my site to highlight recent galleries - but I don't rely on the recent galleries option, instead I select the galleries on that page manually.
