Wrought Iron

Last Sunday afternoon while on a walk around my neighborhood we stopped in at one of the neighborhood churches. The church was destroyed by bombs in the war but I'm not sure if some of the wrought iron is original from the 18th century. Whatever its age, I find it interesting and have photographed it several times. Since it wasn't too long after the end of church services, there was still some incense hanging around in the air which made an interesting background effect.

As usual, comments and criticism welcome.

All shot at ISO 1600 at either f4 or f5 with my 14-140 (28-280) zoom.

1) Slightly de-saturated

Nice details Sara, especially 1 and 5. In the other the bright colors in the background distract mildly from the wrought iron details.
Maybe they would be helped with a mild desaturation and/or full B&W treatment.

Very nice Sara! I like them all (#5 the best!), and agree that the backgrounds are only very mildly distracting - no bother to me, really.
The pews in #4 though, seem to be not quite horizontal.
You have such wonderful opportunities to capture such things... lucky you!

I appreciate your comments Eric! Why am I not surprised that you like the B&W one the best! mwink.gif Thanks for the heads up on #4 - I may play with it a bit...

Since I was shooting with such a slow lens (4-5.6) it was a challenge to get as shallow a DOF as I would have liked. I was shooting wide open at 1/40 sec. I hate to go above ISO 1600 or it gets too noisy.

...and no need to be envious - I may have lots of old churches and the Alps at my disposal but you have the Mojave Desert and the Pacific Ocean both of which I long to see again. It's all relative...

Here's a re-worked copy of #4. Now it looks to me like the brick column in back of the crucifix is slightly out of whack. ...sigh...

Very nice images, and some great samples of craftsmanship. It's hard to say without viewing in person, but my guess is that most of this work is hand forged. Beautiful!

Taz & Phil - thanks for taking the time to comment!

...and yes, Phil, I'm pretty sure that all of this flourish work is all hand forged.
