A Very Wet, Very Black Bee

I found this bee mid-morning two days ago. It was extremely wet from overnight rain. I have an image of this stage but there is so much water that almost no bee structures can be made out. I placed the edge of some torn newspaper so as to absorb most of the water before taking the pictures.
The bee was still there more than an hours later, when rain had restarted, so I placed some diluted honey by its mouth. The bee was still there hour later.
I am still not sure what kind of bee it was . We get some entirely black bumble bees for a short period in early spring.
I used twin flash, one on an L-bracket and one in my lens-supporting hand.
EM-1, Kiron 105mm, f16, hand-held.
All cropped.

There is soggy and thoroughly soggy. Before I drew off most of the water (not sharp).
