Although I think this is a translation from the German that is only used in Wikipedia? He is known to his friends as Rhagium mordax. This one had just emerged and was strutting his stuff in the sunshine yesterday.

The Latin name means to bite or sting, perhaps "pinch", "pincer".
Another species, Rhagium psychophanta seems to have a different reputation.
