I am no Canon authority, but I am unaware of Canon making an "L" teleconverter - the text on the Amazon page you linked does describe an "L" TC but the image on the same link is the standard Canon 1.4 TC.

On Canon's website http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=154&modelid=7463 - there is no mention of an L TC. Nor are either of my 1.4 or 2.0 Canon TC's labeled as "L"

The TC's from Canon are rec'd to work best with their L primes though.

headscratch.gif i think the L in the title is refering to its color *white* because many of the Canon "L" telephoto and telephoto zooms are white in color.

    maybe thats why?ne_nau.gif

    Could be Daniel. ne_nau.gif

But Canon's "L" designation implies that special ultra low dispersion glass or flourite lens elements are utilized in the construction, and I don't think that is true or necessary for the TCs.

The wording in the description makes it seem like it is made of L glass, fluoritene_nau.gif It also says it is yet to be released, maybe something new.

    Product Description
    Product Description:
The Canon 1.4x (L) Teleconverter EF is for use on Canon EF 'L' series lenses ONLY. It will NOT work with standard Canon EF non-L lenses.Made of Canon's extra sharp Fluorite glass, the 1.4x Tele-converter will give a 40% increase in magnification to any lens attached to it, at the cost of only one f-stop of light transmission. A 200mm f/4 lens, for example, becomes a 280mm f/5.6 lens with the 1.4x Tele-converter behind it. No correction is required for either focusing or exposure operations, the camera does it all. (some focusing restrictions exist. please see specifications). As an added bonus, minimum focusing distance, for any lens, remains the same and that can really improve macro performance! Comes complete with hard case and strap.

I see the quote about Flourite lenses - but it didn't mention flourite lenses on the Canon site I pointed out - only on the Amazon and Ritz camera sites.

SO it apparently does use a flourite lens - then it would qualify for an L designation, but the image of the TC on the Amazon site does not say L, it just shows a standard 1.4 TC that has been avaiable for some time. It looks like the 1.4 and 2.0 TC I already possess.

Has anyone heard of an announcement from Canon about a new series of TCs?? I would love for them to introduce a 1.7x like Nikon has available.

Not aware of any "L" designation either.

There have been a couple versions of Canon 1.4x and 2x TC's. The later series became available in 2001. Here is a test of the two.

Buy one. If it doesn't *actually* have L-glass in it, tell amazon to give you a free L-series lens to compensate ^_^
