    Thanks Brian and Harold.

    Actually, as I posted, I remembered that alderflies were not diptera and I wondered if Harold would correct me rolleyes1.gif

    To be fair, I meant "just" in a vox populi sense rather than an exclusive sense!

    I should have been more precise, especially as I have set myself a challenge of trying to catalogue my images taxonomically or phylogenetically. I had never really appreciated what a subjective art it was and how often insects move between categories (and how often they have multiple systematic names).

    Anyway, thank you Harold .. the fun comes in getting closer to the Sialis species. I see an evening of counting wing segments ahead of me!

    My money is on Lutaria especially if it was associated with static water.
