Blue Ridge Parkway Star Trails

A couple of weekends ago I took a ride out to the Blue Ridge Parkway for some star photography. I was down on the south end of the parkway at Waterrock Knob.

1 - I grabbed a few sunset shots waiting on the stars.

2 - Traffic on the BRP

3 - The ranger station/visitor center at Waterrock.

4 - The Moose-mobile

5 - Some star trails looking to the east.

6 - Star trails over Waterrock Knob. This is 30 4-minute exposures, all shot at ISO 100 and f/2.8 using a Rokinon 14mm lens on a Canon 5D3. I used Star Trail Stacker to combine the shots.

Nice shots... but #1.... WOW, all the subtle gradations of gray in the hills feeding into the sunset.... great capture and post work there Moose!

Great final result! Looks like you had fun along the way, too.

These are all great, and number one is pretty awesome, indeed. But I wanna make sure #4 gets the appreciation it needs. Not only is it well exposed, but the focus is dead on for the entire scene. Great work!

Thank you all! I keep looking at that sunset picture, thinking it may have to go up on the wall. It's been a while since I was out shooting stars, probably not since I was out west last September, but life has been "interesting" the past few months and I enjoyed getting to spend a couple of hours out under the stars.

2,5 and 6 for me! I think the human elements go great with the stars in the heavens! :)
