Look in the murky depths of your garden pond and you are likely to see these worms in the mud, waving their back ends away gathering oxygen (they bury their heads in the silt).

Tubifex
like highly organic mud, including that contaminated with sewage. They are sold by specialist pet shops as food for aquarium fish.
