Red bugs.
Not sure yet what they are exactly - but they are very small. These are on the apple tree, on the edge of a pruned back branch. As you will also see, one is having a meal - and I have no idea what tiny bug it is eating either!
Again, these are underneath a branch and at the worst possible angle to photograph!

They are mites. As far as I can see, they have three pairs of legs, typical of early stages "nymphs" of mites.
