Custom Theme's vs Default Themes

I have a default theme and several custom theme's. If I change the default theme are the folders, etc., that are using a custom theme change. I want the change the default and not impact the custom themes.d

I hope I'm understanding you correctly. If you change the default theme or the one that's assigned to the "entire site", it shouldn't change the settings on any of the galleries, folders etc where you have a custom theme applied.
