It was super windy and freezing cold in the shade with the windchill... When we got to this spot the sun hadn't come up enough over the hill yet and it was mostly still in shade... stick around long enough though and....
i got this first ray of sunlight popping over the hill and warming this little flower bush
Down in a small ravine behind us....
We drove further down the road and stopped at a small stream/lake. Unfortunately it seems everything worth shooting is backlit all day this time of year... but this tree and winter grasses on the bank caught my eye.
We also went hiking down one of the refuges many trails. I found this scene about 20ft off trail... had to balance on two rocks over a small pool of water.... lol
We also met Wally (wally5656) for lunch and he took us to the 40ft hole to get some shots.
I think I kept freaking AJ out cause I was perched right at the edge of where the cliff dropped off taking pictures.. :uhoh
I'd like to go back and try to replicate at least the 3rd and 4th shot using the new tripod.... they look ok downsized and sharpened but the full size you can tell they were handheld and shakey.. lots of motion blur :cry

Yup, and it's not that I'm scared of heights, I'm scared of FALLING from heights.

On that second shot.. did you place the stick in the stream like that? Because it's perfect like that!
and nope... the stick was already there!
