Are permits now required to do any shooting in NYC. I know from personal experience that NJTransit requires permitting and are superaggressive (try shooting the crown moulding inside Hoboken's Lackawanna Railroad terminal, and see what happens) But I thought the MTA was photog friendly. And I wonder if they can stop you from doing whatever you want on the street.
Andy, you haunt those parts. What's up?

You do need a permit from the Mayor's office to do organized filming in the City. You also need a permit to do organized photography on the streets or sidewalks (like a model shoot or some such).

You do not need a permit for Street Photography.
