Phil, Taz, thanks. Taz, you're right about the dust spot, of course. Infrared conversion disables the automatic sensor cleaner. Between that and Arizona's dust, I'm constantly battling to keep the sensor on the IR camera clean.
David, Sara, thanks. I'm surprised but pleased by the reactions. Infrared is a niche tool, but one niche it fills well is photographing through a lot of atmospheric obstruction. I read a scientific explanation of why it cuts through haze and such but I don't remember the details. And with an over-photographed place such as the Grand Canyon, infrared's distinct tonal language offers an interesting change.
A magnificent location that's been shot to death and always looks very red, which is something I'd probably emphasize if I were shooting there! However, this is a very refreshing change and strangely works well!
Gorgeous. I was actually thinking lately that I hadn't seen any GC pictures in IR- and it seems like a good place to use it on hazy days at the very least.
It's nice you could keep the details in the shadows. I'd hazard a guess that you couldn't (or just barely) see the distant cliffs in visible light.
Thanks, JC. I can't remember what I could see but it was a fairly murky day. I could do better than this one and want to go back and try, but not until all the tourists leave.

Luck happens when preparation meets opportunity!
I would zap the dust spec on top right along with dark patch at absolute top right corner...
Cheers Don!
