He just said he didn't know that there was an L 18-55.

So how did you get that red ring on it? Did it come like that? or did you put a thin sticker or paint it on?

Previous owner painted the groove. It's pretty slick actually. A bit is rubbing off now, but I'm sure with a better paint and finer brush, he might've been able to get a better bond.

cute. but the L ring and letter are kinda pointless aren't they? the previous owner should have spent more time taking pictures than they did on detailing the outside of a lens to look like a high end chunk of glass.

I think ye missed the point...

    A) this lens is modified for the 10D, and cleanly done, which makes me happy thumb.gif
    B) after my first tests, i've discovered that it's sharp as sh*t :D (this makes me even happier)
    C) it came with a hood (bonus! i wasn't even expecting endcaps for what I paid...)
    D) the red ring was just too cute, so I took 5 seconds in photoshop and added an L
    E) it looks sexy on my camera

It can't have taken more than 10 minutes to do the pinstripe.

I'd like to have my 18-55 detailed with flames, or perhaps a sharks mouth like the old P-58's. That would be too cool.:):

    I had a modded 18-55"L" too

Hint: auto pin-striping works way better than red paint. more durable and goes on in 1 minute, not 10.

    So is it modified for....
A full frame camera as well? I'd LOVE to see how this does on a film camera or a 5d. What exactly is involved in the mod, and can I do it to my 17-85 IS (not)?

Compare your 17-85 to an EF lens. Everything that sticks out (except the contacts) beyond the EF, would have to be removed.

    I'd like a 10-22 modded like this ^_^

I bought a used D60 a while back and now that I have started to look for one of these moded 18-55's I can't seem to find one. It doesn't even have to have the red ring!

I have looked here, FM, and E-Bay.
