This species mostly settles only for a second or two, even when not approached. It is not easy to photograph.
This flash image shows the flattened appearance of the compound eyes which is typical flies under such lighting. A natural light image shot from the same viewpoint tends not to show this but getting sharp daylight images is difficult at an acceptable ISO.
