In 1894 Luther Burbank decided to create a "white" blackberry. From what I was told it was originally created because at the time women wore white gloves and as anyone who has ever picked a berry knows, the fingers get colored by the juice quickly.
Anyway, these white blackberries still grow at his home and garden located in Santa Rosa, California.
I've taken many photographs there for both work and for fun. Today the staff and docents shared this little known berry with me and provided a few samples for me to photograph.
The leaves began wilting very quickly on the ride back from the park and as I also found out, the berries begin turning yellow shortly after being removed from the vine.
None on the vine were 100% ripe yet, but with my incredibly busy schedule, I may not have the chance to get a better opportunity to photograph these seldom seen and even lesser known variety of blackberry.
