Mini-Challenge #230 ~ Parks and Recreation

Woo Hoo!! It's Summertime!!
Many of us (and our families) will be having a holiday and visiting Parks or engaging in our favorite Recreational Activites.
For this challenge, please post images of Parks; National, State, Local, scenic, amusement, wildlife, etc., anything that actually is in a "Park"... if you can identify the place for the viewers, all-the-better!
And/or, please show us people engaged in a recreational activity - it doesn't have to be someone you know even, just folks "recreating" in some fashion.
And, even though it's summertime now, you shots can be from anytime of the year! :thumb

Hope to see some fun, beautiful, and interesting images!

This Mini will run for two weeks; from today, Sunday, July 17, 2016 to Monday, August 1, 2016 at 9:00pm PST (California).

Good Luck, and please enjoy your Summer!

Usual Stuff:
############################################################################
OUR UN-OFFICIAL GENERAL RULES
1. Have fun sharing and seeing what others share!
2. The host supplies a topic and YOU POST 1-3 IMAGES. The host judges the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and is not eligible to enter. The 1st place winner becomes the next host, chooses the next topic and becomes the next judge.
3. Any photo you’ve taken is eligible, regardless of when taken or camera used.
4. Any amount of post-processing is allowed. However, it is helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo.
5. You may comment on other contestant's images. If you want someone to leave you some critique or criticism, just ask within your post.
6. The winner has up to three days (72 hours) to begin a new mini-challenge, or the honor goes to the #2 finisher and so forth.

Guidelines:
1. Enter 1-3 photos and put them in a single post.
2. Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).
3. Also try and re-size your photos prior to posting so they're sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll (~800 pixels on the longest side works best.)
4. Give each image you enter a title.
5. Enjoy discussion with members about their images, don't let this just be an entry thread!
6. When quoting a post, change the IMG urls to a 200x200 size picture so it is clear your post is feedback and not another entry. (See here for help).
7. Don't be hesitant; share 'em and enter!

Mini-Challenge pointers:
1. Upon winning a mini-challenge round, your first step is coming up with a new theme and starting a new thread using the same format as others have used.
2. Make sure to notify the admin of this thread to update the main thread links with your entry thread.
3. Feel free to watch the thread as it grows or wait to the end time and look at all the entries all at once.
4. After the time/date has passed, then officially close the thread with a single post notifying everyone of the fact.
5. After you're finished judging, start a new thread (again using the prior formats) and post your Winner and runners-up. It is important to have runners up in case the winner does not show within the 72-hour window.
6. PM the winner with this info above and let them know they have 72 hours to set up the next mini-challenge.
7. If the winner does not show/start the next mini-challenge after 72 hours, notify the next runner-up and post a message on the Winner thread of the fact.
8. Remember, if you're the Winner, you run the next mini challenge!

I had a really hard time picking - I have lots of photos of various parks, but not so many of people recreating in them

    1. Don't Look
    IMG_2889.JPG

This is a Spanish girl (from Malaga) feeding pieces of coconut a monkey in Manuel Antonio National Park, Costa Rica. August 2015 She was told not to look directly at the monkey because that would be an act of aggression. I don't think feeding monkeys is sanctioned by the park

    2. Teepee time

Old City Park in Dallas TX - daughter and granddaughter exploring the teepee

    3. Ladders

    00710012.JPG

This is Mesa Verde National Park in October 1966 (digitized slide). We were on a ranger led tour.

I really wanted to use one of this same child on this same trip rolling down the dunes in the Great Sand Dune National Monument, but it wasn't such a good photo

Ok, here goes... since there's not a huge tradition of national parks here in Europe (there are some, but certainly not to the extent of the US) my shots are of people taking part in recreational activities.

    1) This was taken here, at the confluence of the Dordogne and Vézère rivers in soouthwest France. It was early evening and the river was filled with canoes and kayaks and people wading in the shallow waters.

    2) The Canal du Midi is not a park, but a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A few years ago I rode the length of it with a girlfriend and one day this scene presented itself. The picture was taken here.

    3) Every May 1st a group of us from work open the cycling season by having a pot-luck breakfast and then working off some of the calories on a day-long bike ride. This picture from a couple of years ago was taken here.
