This is a very smart buprestid beetle living in Provence.

    Nice! I would pull back highlights and whites some.....bit too bright.

    Thanks Stumblebum ... I agree with you in the version here ... usual problem ... Lightroom processing looks OK on laptop, upload to smug mug and then linking ... everything that was low key somehow gets in your face.

    Although I must admit that I have never calibrated my laptop screen.

    EDIT ... have just replaced with a low key version

    Low key version is much more pleasing!
    I too have this LR problem......but opposite....seems much more punchier in LR and when I post it become low key......
    Either way, this version works!!

    I didn't realise this had been edited and was wondering why the highlights were criticised. Anyway, the current version is good.

    You seem to have a typo, the correct genus name being Bupestis.

    I don't think we have that species here. Interesting lifestyle:

    Harold, as always thanks. I think we both have typos .. I had the "r" in the wrong place, you lost it entirely! Anyway, it should now be correct. It was a beautiful find ... took a little while to identify.

    If I had the bandwidth here, I would bombard you with a series of pictures with the sp.? label!
