I came across these images under the name "fly with long hairs on abdomen" in my "Flies" folder. The images were shot a year ago. Since then, I have photographed a number of species of tachinid, such that I now recognised it as one. Not only that but I am quite confident of the species name. The reddish-brown patches on the sides of the abomen and the shape of the grey area in between are diagnostic.
I got the framing slightly wrong for the second image, clipping the left feet off. The head shots are of a much shallower DOF than I would usually apply but still show some good detail.
EM-1, Kiron 105, twin flash, hand-held.

Thanks, Brian.
I have a recall failure about the circumstances.
