I'm starting to look into purchase of some ND filters and had a couple questions. More specifically, I'm looking at the B+W ND products yet am open to other manufacturers. As an aside, my Promaster 0-10 stop is pure junk at 8+. Mounting will be on either a 24-70 f/2.8 or a 70-200 f/2.8.

I'm looking at a B+W MRC 110M Solid ND 3.0 filter (10 stops) as well as a couple more of lesser degree in the same series.

My first question is, are there pros/cons to the screw type filters vs the plate/carrier setups? I can be assured I'll have to pre-focus, turn auto-focus off and then install the filter regardless of type. Is a plate/carrier type preferred over a screw on? Much would depend on the number of changes I'll make I think. I'd surmise from a weight and space perspective the screw-on would be ideal over plate/carriers.

Second question is, for those using the B+W products, what's the difference between the MRC line and the SC line? I think it boils down to number of coatings/layers of ND?????

Looking forward to hearing what you all have to offer!
