This one spends most of his time chasing-away all the other Hummers... it looks like a lot of work... he takes his breaks on this branch.
I could swear he's sticking his tongue out at me...
Incredible capture my friend!! Getting out the details and tiny pink feathers, not easy and light is fantastic too!
May I suggest a crop.....
Vertical shot of right half....then the bokeh of flower behind the bird would be like moon or something......and its back would not be towards negative space....
Good morning Taz!
Thanks for the always right-on C&C... I appreciate it, Sir!
This and my recent half-moon shot are both with the 5D3 and 100-400mm L + 1.4 Extender 3, and mega crops.
Sometimes it seems like the 5D3 can be cropped 4-evvvvvvverrrrrr!!
Thanks for sharing gear info...... have those.....too bad canon is dumping newer versions of each.....can't afford them so don't want to think about them...:D

Yeah... 5D4... it's always some-kind of temptation in life eh?
A fairly benign form of vice tho... as vices seem to go...
As long as I get great results from the kit I have... it really helps tamp-down Gear Lust...
Happy Shooting Buddy!
Truly a fantastic capture, great catchlight in the eye. I like it this way, but Taz's suggestion has merit also. If this is the bully, he's probably thinking "What you lookin at sucker"
I don't know where I'm going, but I'm going anyway.

Thanks so much Phil! I appreciate your eye and ideas!
Hahaha... yes, that little guy (could be a girl also) is a real bada$$... we get, during rush hour, 40-50 birds in a cloud around 4 feeders and he'll try to chase most of them away... it's amazing to watch!
I can do better... I prefer natural light (rather than adding fill-flash) so, it makes it a little trickier
to catch the right combination of light, background, shutter speed, etc.
btw... Len, I used the same 1.4X Extender on this image as the moon... seems to work very well... especially given the variable/sub-optimal results some people report using extenders.

Again, it is completely beautiful as is!
Cheers!

Eric
good gear; not enough time
It is challenging, but way fun trying to get that focus point right on the eye...
