Dahlia Looper

There was some damage to leaves of a potted Dahlia plant in our conservatory. It was caused by these larvae. There are so many geometrid larvae of similar appearance that I have made no attempt to identify it. The images posted today are with my usual Kiron 105mm at f16 and twin TTL flash. Tomorrow I will upload some closer views.

The last image is an example of the damage. They do not feed at the edge of leaves, as would most caterpillars, but make a hole away from the edge.

A member of another forum has identified this as the larva of the Silver Y Moth, not a looper but a noctuid.
