This fabulous racer is a 1935 Aston Martin " Ulster ". One of early Aston Martin's strong underpinnings was a resolute dedication to mechanical reliability. That driving force led to a statistic about the Ulster that is really amazing. As it was produced as a competition model only, all of them saw racing in some form or fashion. They only produced 21 of these cars. The amazing statistic? 20 of those 21 cars are still around. That sort of survivor ratio in racing cars subjected to harsh treatment is rare, testimony to Aston Martin's guiding principle of reliability.
As mentioned, they made 21 of these Ulster models from 1934 t0 1936. It is powered by a 1500 c.c. motor putting out 80 HP. Top end, it can reach slightly over 100 mph. It runs a dry sump system and the thing requires 18 quarts of oil. Mercy. It runs oversized drum brakes that are very effective.
Prior to partial restoration, this car had been rotting away in a garage. It was constructed with an aluminum body over an ash wood frame. The frame had to be totally replaced with new one crafted by top-rung artisans. The seats, as you see them, are original, as is much of the cockpit area.

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.
