The alarm sounded at 2:45am, and I'll be honest, I contemplated waiting for another opportunity. But the idea of witnessing a piece of history in the making, nearing the end of a 145 year industry on this island, totally won me over.
Here are a few shots of this morning's burn. It was totally worth it.

Mahalo, AnnaMaria!
The fire can't be seen from everywhere, because of the mountains. The valley is between the two mountains, and is also the location of the cane agriculture land.
You can smell the fire byproducts for miles. It's not a nice thing really, but this is the last year of all cane burning on Maui. Sad to see the industry leave, but fresh air free of chemical burning byproducts is a pretty awesome thing, too.
grt,boco.
Thank you!
Phil
Luck happens when preparation meets opportunity!
Thank you, Phil! There are a few burns remaining on the schedule, and I anticipate trying to get other unique captures of the events. Next on the list: Close proximity aerial images (all legitimate, legal, and within FAA Guidelines).
Mahalo, Taz! I have some great mentors, yourself included.
best,
