Not-so-extreme sport

Earlier this week shuffleboarders from all over the world gathered in
St Cloud, Florida, for the International Shuffleboard Association World
Shuffleboard Championships.

Action shots are hard to come by in this sport. No one dives for the
disk to stop a score, no mighty swings-and-misses to be recorded,
no grimaces of pain or expressions of triumph. While I shot at 1/125th,
I could have captured the disk at 1/30th as it slid sedately down the
polished and sanded court.

In this shot, a US competitor takes on a UK competitor:

In baseball, they "mud" the ball, but in shuffleboard they polish the disk in
a machine with spinning brushes and buff the surface with an abrasive.
