Ive found today that when adding watermarks on upload, the option for NOT watermarking EXISTING images in the gallery has been removed ?

If this is the case then why has this been done ? as its now making more work for me to have to do, i use my site for busy events so have many galleries and often upload to multiple galleries at the same time and always use the to option to not watermark existing images as some i dont want watermarked....

We did change the way the watermark settings works and announced the changes on Friday during our weekly "Coffee or Beer" posting.

We looked at the way that our customers were using Watermarks, and using these settings and found that nearly all of them (you're clearly an exception) were using it to either watermark the entire gallery, or not watermark the entire gallery. The way the settings were configured previously was extremely confusing for them.

We changed the way watermarks are applied and removed in your gallery settings. Now, when you choose a watermark to apply to the gallery, we will automatically make sure it gets applied to every photo in the gallery. Likewise, when you decide to remove a watermark we will remove it from all photos in that gallery. This will make your entire gallery consistent. Should you want to add or remove a different watermark from your settings, you can still use the watermarking tool in the organizer!

Your best bet will be to leave watermarking off, and then use the Organizer to watermark the ones you'd like to have watermarked.

I have a WM set in a long time saved "gallery setting" and apply the saved setting for ever new gallery.
    Any problem with this?

Shouldn't be ... if the quick setting causes the gallery's Watermark setting to be toggled from what it previously was, then that action will apply to the entire gallery. If you're creating a new gallery, it'll just set the gallery to have watermarking on or off once new uploads are found.

wow you must have a low opinion of your customers if you think a simple tick box was so as you say "extremely confusing for them"

We have a great team of Product Managers and UX Designers that optimize the experience for our customers. We release what we believe is the best experience and then monitor, gather feedback, and iterate. This was a case of monitoring how it was being used and then iterating to optimize for how people wanted to use it.

So if i down grade to a power account will all existing watermarks be removed from my galleries ?

i only use my account as a showroom and have my customers contact me to place there orders. No reason why i cant just apply my own watermarks on uploading

If you downgrade to a Power account your photos that are already watermarked will remain watermarked; the only change will be that you cannot watermark new images. As you mentioned, you could add your own watermark prior to uploading

I have two galleries that I occasionally add new photos. I change the watermark in the gallery settings to
the current year before I upload the new photo. All the photos over the years carry the watermark for their year.

My question is, if I change the watermark in the gallery settings does all the photos in the gallery get updated to
this new watermark? That would be disastrous for me.

Yes. In this situation your best bet would be to just leave the setting to whatever it's at now. All the previously watermarked images will stay as they are. New photos may get watermarked with the wrong watermark, but you can then go into the Organizer and apply the correct watermark to only the images you want to have the new watermark.

This sounds like a time bomb. A lot of folks are going to be pissed when all their WM's are changed.
Why not add a toggle to update all or only new uploads?

My experience helping customers on the help desk is that people were expecting the tool to work how it does now. It is a bit of a change for people that have gotten used to how the tool worked previously.
