Thanks, I was very lucky to get to visit there. It is a research station with only a few vessel visits per year and no airport. I happened to be installing some equipment there.

HA! These are terrific. How did the area smell?

There are two things that reduce the potentially horrendous smell. One is the temperature was in the 40s and the other is that the wind was blowing about 30 knots, which it does most of the time. Even then you could definitely smell them. One of the rules at the station is that you NEVER wear your shoes indoors because any where you walk you are walking on poop.

I know of islands in Alaska where you can smell the sea lions from miles away, even when the temps are below freezing.

These remind me of a recently watched 'Life on Earth 2' which featured a place with about 1.5m resident penguins - iirc.

Pic 4 - but with the green / bg cropped out is the strongest imo.
